Northern Seaboards makes a welcome entrance & drops his Union Pacific EP on promo.
A new project rooted in live-dubbed electronic processes, the three-track EP marks a deliberate shift toward a more hands-on, dubbed out composition approach & rather than relying primarily on programmed sequences - the material was shaped in real-time through live jams, parameter modulations & effects processing.
Across the opening cut 'Apple White', through to 'Thin Places' & on to the closing 'Omega Point' - result is music that feels organic, evolving and deliberately alive. Drawing inspiration from the spatial depth of Basic Channel and Deepchord / CV313, the tonal characteristics of Autechre, the raw energy of Surgeon, and the textural worlds of Pole and Loscil, Union Pacific sits at the intersection of dark electronic, atmospheric dub-techno & ambient techno.
With the dark, evolving melancholic energy of 'Apple White' - haunting pads drift over solid kicks & broken beats, built from processed field recordings and synthesised elements that feel submerged and distant. 'Thin Places' follows & introduces a rolling bassline and a stronger four-to-the-floor pulse. Gritty, washed-out reverbs create a sense of spaciousness while evolving melodies and syncopated rhythms unfold - with live, dubbed elements give the track an evolving, tactile quality.
Signing off in fitting fashion is 'Omega Point', with its cold & desolate atmosphere. A call-and-response kick pattern and playful lead line build a foundation - before the track gradually transforms in the second half to a more uplifting, ascending character.
With Union Pacific marking the first release under the Northern Seaboards moniker, the EP represents a focused exploration of live process and spatial depth.
